Islamabad, February 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Hon. Ms. Mehnaz Akbar Aziz, MNA, Convener, Pakistan – UK Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) met H.E. Mr. Andrew Dalgleish, Acting British High Commissioner, today the 27th February 2023 at 1315 hours at Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS), Islamabad. The meeting was attended by: i) Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, MNA ii) Ms. Naz Baloch, MNA, iii) Ms. Asia Azeem, MNA, iv) Ms. Romina Khursheed Alam, MNA v) Ms. Farrukh Khan and vi) Ms. Javeria Zafar Aheer, MNA.
Before meeting the Acting British High Commissioner, The officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Commerce briefed Hon. Ms. Mehnaz Aziz and other present Members of Pakistan – UK PFG on the existing bilateral relations between Pakistan and UK.
While welcoming the Acting British High Commissioner, Ms. Mehnaz Aziz highlighted that Pakistan and UK enjoys cordial friendly relations. She assured that existing bilateral relations between two countries will strengthen further with mutual cooperation.
Ms. Mehnaz Aziz appreciated the British Government for showing solidarity and humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of the devastating floods. She mentioned that UK is the largest trade and investment partner of Pakistan in Europe and we are keen to further enhancing bilateral economic ties with UK.
Being alumni of the Chevening Scholarship, Ms. Mehnaz Aziz thanked the British Government for increasing the No. of Chevening Scholarships to Pakistani Students. Mr. Andrew said that UK values it friendly relations with Pakistan and recalled the England Cricket team’s visit to Pakistan.
Ms. Mehnaz Aziz also recalled the Parliamentarians Cricket Tournament won by Pakistan’s Parliament organized by a British Parliamentarian in 2019. She appreciated the idea and stressed that these kinds of activities may be organized from both sides. Both sides agreed that Parliamentary Friendship Groups can play a pivotal role in promoting parliamentary diplomacy, people to people contact and promoting parliamentary relations between two countries.
