Holy month of Ramadan commences in IIOJK

Srinagar, March 23, 2023 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, announcements were made from mosques throughout the territory on Wednesday that Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, would commence from Thursday (today). The announcements came soon after the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan announced that the Ramadan moon was sighted and the first of the holy month will fall on Thursday.

The Committee’s Chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, addressing a press conference in Peshawar said that the committee received moon-sighting testimonies from a number of places in the country, including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Swabi, Qila Saifullah, and Mardan. Various religious bodies including Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar and Kishtwar and Anjuman-e-Shari Shiaan also announced beginning of the holy month of Ramadan from Thursday.

As per reports, the Ramadan moon was not sighted in India and Bangladesh. It is worth mentioning here that the people of IIOJK observe Ramadan and Eid with Pakistan as they consider Jammu and Kashmir a part of the country.
