Hindutva supporters’ clamour for apartheid of Muslims in Haryana grows

New Delhi, August 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): As part of concerted efforts to margenalize the Muslim community, Hindutva groups’ clamour for an economic boycott of Muslims is becoming louder with each passing day. Taking advantage of the recent communal clashes that rocked several cities of Haryana, the Hindutva lobby is out in full force launching a vilification campaign against Muslims and issuing calls not to allow members of the minority community to work and do business in Hindu localities.

In the Zainabad village of Haryana’s Rewari district, the Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat wrote to the local police station informing it about the consensus decision of the Hindus to boycott Muslims, whom she described as “miscreants”. Sarpanch Neena Yadav wrote to the in charge of the Dahina police station. The letter, on the official letterhead of the Sarpanch, came to light after a journalist shared it through her Twitter handle.

“We humbly request that in view of communal violence in Nuh, the panchayat of our village Zainabad and all villagers have decided that members of the Muslim community alias miscreants will not be allowed to do any kind of business or set up shops in the village,” reads the letter. The letter also said that they have asked all shopowners renting their properties to submit the IDs of their tenants to the police station.

Academic Adil Hossain called it apartheid. “Everyday apartheid on official letterhead era!” he tweeted. On Sunday, a Hindu maha panchayat in Tighra village supported the accused who allegedly set a mosque on fire in Guruguram and killed its imam Hafiz Saad. The maha panchayat has called for an economic boycott of Muslims.
