Hindutva Mob Violence Escalates Tensions in Ujjain

Ujjain: Tensions have gripped Madhya Pradesh, India, following acts of violence where a Hindutva mob torched Muslim homes in the city of Ujjain. The unrest, fueled by a viral video, has heightened fear and insecurity among local residents.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the violence was sparked by a video circulated on social media showing a Hindu girl with a Muslim youth. The incident led to accusations of ‘love jihad’ from Hindutva activists, including members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Bajrang Dal.

The mob, reportedly supported by these organizations, targeted Muslim households, accusing them of attempting to convert Hindu women to Islam through romantic relationships. Violence erupted as the mob stormed into the homes of the Muslim community, pelting stones and subsequently setting houses ablaze.

In addition to the arson, other properties owned by Muslim families in Ujjain were attacked, exacerbating the fear among residents who now live in apprehension of further aggression. The attacks have left the community on edge, as tensions remain high.

Amidst the turmoil, the response of law enforcement has come under scrutiny. Instead of taking action against the perpetrators, police detained seven Muslim youths. The detentions have drawn criticism and raised concerns about the impartiality of the authorities in handling the situation.

The incident has underscored the fragile intercommunal relations in the region, with calls for urgent intervention to restore peace and ensure the safety of all residents.
