Hindutva mob sets two ministers’ houses on fire in AP 

New Delhi, May 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):Angry mob belonging to a Hindutva outfit has set the house of two ministers on fire in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Violence broke out in Andhra Pradesh’s Amalapuram town on Tuesday after angry members of Hindutva outfit Konaseema Sadhana Samithi (KSS) showed their disapproval about naming Konaseema district as Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. Dr Ambedkar was champion of Dalits’ rights and chief architect of the Indian constitution.

In the videos shared on social media horrifying visuals of arson could be seen. Houses of Andhra Pradesh Minister Ponnada Satish and state minister P. Viswaroop’s were house set on fire by the agitators, who also attacked many vehicles with stone pelting. A police vehicle and an educational institution’s bus were also set ablaze by the mob. Several policemen were injured by the stones thrown by the protesters.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which bans assembly of five or more members, have been imposed in Amalapuram. Also, 500 additional policemen have been summoned from surrounding districts. On April 4, this year, the new Konaseema district was carved out of the erstwhile East Godavari with Amalapuram as its headquarters.
