Hindutva Group Assaults Men Mistaken for Muslims in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: In a case of mistaken identity, three Hindu men posing as Sadhus were assaulted by a Hindutva group in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, after being mistaken for Muslims, underscoring the rising communal tensions in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the victims—Sunil Kumar, Gaurav Kumar, and Gopinath—were attacked while begging. Police investigations later dismissed the accusations against them as baseless, yet no legal actions have been taken against the assailants. In related incidents, a Muslim man named Nazim faced a similar attack in Quarsi, and a minor Muslim boy was assaulted in Banndevi simply for revealing his Muslim identity.

These events highlight a worrying pattern of violence and demonstrate the volatile intercommunal dynamics in Uttar Pradesh.
