Hindu temple bars non-Hindus from parking vehicles at its premises

Mangaluru, September 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):The authorities of a Hindu Temple in the Indian state of Karnataka have prohibited non-Hindus from parking their vehicles at its premises. The authorities of Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur city of Karnataka have put up a notice board, stating that action will be taken if non-Hindus park their vehicles in the area.

The notice, put up by the temple authorities, states that the temple comes under the Muzrai Department and only the temple devotees will be allowed to park their vehicles on the field. Ten days ago, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagarana Vedike and other extremist Hindu organisations had demanded that non-Hindus be banned from using the parking space.

Senior Congress leader and former MLA Shakuntala Shetty said the decision of the temple committee is wrong. She said people belonging to different faiths visit the temple. She said the town does not have enough parking space, and people going to banks, markets and other places used to park their vehicles there.
