London: A confidential report by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has disclosed that Hindu extremists are contributing to strained community relations with other faith groups, particularly Muslims and Sikhs, across the United Kingdom.

The report, leaked by the Daily Mail, indicates an alarming association between British Hindu extremists and far-right organizations. It warns of electoral interference, escalating communal tensions, and the spread of Hindutva ideology, which is distinct from traditional Hinduism, threatening the religious harmony in the UK.

This revelation follows a prior report by the Home Office, which also identified Hindutva’s influence in the 2022 Leicester riot. The NPCC document highlights interactions between far-right activist Tommy Robinson and certain Hindu groups to advance anti-Muslim agendas. Robinson’s engagement with Indian media after these incidents was met with criticism from the UK’s Indian diaspora.

There was notable disapproval when Robinson received an invitation from Hindutva supporters to visit India, drawing ire from various Indian diaspora organizations. The United Kingdom Indian Muslim Council has called for government action, citing concerns over the alliance between Hindutva and far-right extremists.

The NPCC study mentions that the slogan ‘Jai Sri Ram’ has gained popularity among Hindutva supporters and is seen as a potential source of friction with Muslim and Sikh communities. Additionally, the report attributes tensions to Hindutva propaganda films, which have led to incidents like the protests by Sikh groups against the Bollywood film Emergency.

The NPCC cautions that the activities of Hindutva forces could provoke religious and sectarian conflicts, urging immediate attention to prevent further deterioration of community relations in the UK.
