Hindu Extremists Call for Survey of Historic Dhai Din Ka Jhonpra Mosque Near Ajmer Sharif

New Delhi: After the call for a survey of the renowned Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Hindu extremists have shifted their focus to the ‘Dhai Din Ka Jhonpra Mosque,’ situated in close proximity to the shrine.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the ‘Dhai Din Ka Jhonpra Mosque’ is recognized as one of the oldest mosques in India and holds the status of a protected historical site under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). This development follows statements made by Neeraj Jain, Deputy Mayor of Ajmer, who claimed evidence of a Sanskrit college and a temple at the site, along with over 250 idols reportedly found there by the ASI. The mosque, said to be over a thousand years old, is noted in historical texts, and Jain has previously advocated for the cessation of religious activities at the site.

In related developments, Vishnu Gupta, president of the Hindu Sena, filed a petition in a local court demanding a survey of the Ajmer Dargah, alleging the presence of a Shiva temple beneath it. This led to the court issuing notices to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, ASI, and the Ajmer Dargah Committee on November 27.

These actions echo recent claims concerning the Mughal-era Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal region, where a controversial survey incited protests. The demonstrations saw police intervention that resulted in the deaths of four Muslims.
