High Court in Jammu and Kashmir Overturns Detention Orders for Three Men

Srinagar, The High Court in the region of Jammu and Kashmir under Indian control has overturned the detention of three individuals who were held under the Public Safety Act (PSA), a law often criticized for its harsh provisions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Justice Sanjay Dhar ruled the detentions of Ajaz Ahmad Dar, Adil Ahmad Paul, and Mohammad Amin Banday as illegal and ordered their immediate release from preventive custody. However, the court upheld the detention under the PSA of another individual, Aqib Ahmad Renzu, indicating a partial validation of the authorities’ actions under the same act.

This judicial decision highlights ongoing concerns and debates over the application of the PSA, which has been used extensively to detain individuals in the region without formal charges or trial.
