HEC and PPRA Host Procurement Training for Higher Education Officials

Islamabad: In an effort to enhance the procurement processes within Pakistan’s higher education sector, the Monitoring and Evaluation (M and E) Division of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), in collaboration with the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), conducted a one-day online training workshop on August 26, 2024.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan announcement issued on 26 August 2024, the training titled “Procurement Regulatory Framework” attracted over 130 officials from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country. The event was facilitated through smart classrooms and involved HEC staff from various divisions.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of HEC, addressed the opening ceremony as the chief guest. He discussed the training’s objectives and its expected impact on streamlining procurement activities in higher education by improving understanding and compliance with regulatory rules.

The session included detailed presentations by senior PPRA officials on procurement rules and the e-procurement process. Participants engaged in interactive discussions on tendering strategies, documentation, and evaluation methodologies, aiming to foster efficient and effective procurement practices.

The workshop also provided a platform for attendees to discuss key issues in procurement and audit, focusing on financial controls to prevent fraud, corruption, and mis-procurement in government transactions.
