Srinagar, July 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Srinagar-Jammu highway and Srinagar-Leh highway were closed, today, after heavy rains triggered landslides at various places along the route. Due to heavy rains on Wednesday night, massive landslides blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Ramban district of Jammu region, a senior police official said.
The Srinagar-Leh highway was also closed for vehicular movement after fresh mudslides, triggered by rain occurred at Kullan Gund area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. “Work on clearance of roads is going on and the highway is expected to reopen soon,” an official said.
The inclement weather conditions also led to the suspension of ongoing Hindu pilgrimage, Amarnath Yatra. Officials said that the Amarnath Yatra was suspended on both routes due to bad weather as rains lashed the Kashmir Valley, adding that the yatra will resume after the weather improves.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted more rains in the territory. An official at Meteorological Department Srinagar said that widespread light to moderate rain may continue in IIOJK. He said, the rainfall on upper reaches may lead to flash flood, mudslide and landslide at vulnerable places and people should remain cautious and prepared as these events often occur suddenly.
On the other hand, the occupation authorities have sounded an alert asking people to remain cautious after rise in water level in Chenab River following nightlong rainfall.
An official said that the water level of Chenab, recorded at 09:15 am, was at the danger mark level. He said that due to nightlong rainfall in the Jammu region, all the tributaries feeding water to Chenab got flooded. The official further maintained that alert mark for water level in the river is 32 feet while 35 feet is danger mark, at which the river is flowing currently.
