Heavy Rains in Pakistan Claim 23 Lives Across Three Provinces

Islamabad, Intense rainfall across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab has resulted in the deaths of 23 people, including two children. The severe weather affected multiple districts, causing floods, landslides, and road blockages.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the heavy rains impacted various parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Chaman, Chagai, Nushki, Dera Bugti, Sorab, Kohlu, and Khuzdar. Similarly, significant rainfall occurred in southern Punjab, particularly Multan, and in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dera Ismail Khan, Malakand, Mohmand, and Kohat.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Balochistan reported that the fatalities included two children who died due to a thunderbolt in Sorab district. In Chitral, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms led to the destruction of two homes and several road closures due to landslides and flash floods.

In response to the crisis, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed civic agencies to ensure that rain drains and drainage systems are well-maintained. He also emphasized coordination among the Disaster Management Authority and civic agencies to effectively manage the situation.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur issued instructions for district administrations and rescue organizations to remain vigilant and prepared to address any emergencies. He specifically addressed the closure of the Bahrain-Kalam road in Swat due to landslides, ordering immediate actions to reopen the road and minimize further disruptions and damages.
