Heavy Rains in Northern India Claim 12 Lives, Cause Extensive Damage

New Delhi: Torrential rains across northern India have led to significant devastation, with at least 12 reported fatalities and nearly 1,000 individuals rescued from various Himalayan locations. Emergency teams have been mobilized to respond to the crisis, which has disrupted lives and infrastructure.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Meteorological Department recorded 147 millimeters of rainfall in the eastern regions of New Delhi and its adjacent areas. This extreme weather event has overwhelmed the capital, leading to multiple deaths and extensive property damage.

In Uttarakhand state, the situation is dire as a cloudburst caused the deaths of three people and destroyed parts of two bridges, complicating rescue efforts and communications within the hilly terrain. The Kedarnath pilgrimage route, a crucial path for Hindu devotees, was particularly affected, with key sections of the national highway washed away, as stated by district official Saurabh Gaharwar.

The recent weather extremes in Delhi, ranging from record-breaking heatwaves to unexpected flooding, have culminated in several disasters, including a roof collapse at the city’s main airport.
