Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across central Punjab and southern Sindh within the next 24 hours. The forecast indicates that regions including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Hyderabad could experience significant rainfall, leading to potential urban flooding and related hazards.
According to Press Information Department, the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA forecasts rainfall amounts ranging from 50 to 100 mm in short durations of one to two hours in areas such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Okara, Jhang, and Sheikhupura in Punjab. In Sindh, cities like Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, and Umerkot among others are expected to face similar extreme weather conditions with strong winds and thunderstorms.
The NDMA has directed all relevant departments to prepare for the anticipated conditions, emphasizing the need for immediate precautions to mitigate the impact of potential flooding and the risks posed by strong winds and lightning. The public is strongly advised to remain indoors during the storm, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay clear of electrical poles and wires to ensure safety.
Additionally, the NDMA has promoted the use of its Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, which is available for download on Google Play Store and iOS App Store, offering timely alerts, advisories, and guidelines to help the public stay informed and prepared.
