Heavy Monsoon Rains Expected Across Pakistan; NDMA Issues Warnings and Preparedness Measures

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a comprehensive update on the ongoing monsoon season, forecasting heavy rains and potential flooding across various regions of Pakistan, including flash floods in mountainous areas and urban flooding in major cities.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, Lahore recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours with 120 mm, followed by Islamabad’s Saidpur area at 17 mm. The forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours predicts significant rain-wind/thundershowers across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit Baltistan, and the State of AJ and K. Specific warnings have been issued for isolated heavy falls that may lead to flash flooding and landslides in hilly regions, and urban flooding in cities such as Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi.

The NDMA’s guidance stresses the importance of early warning systems and preparedness measures. Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) are directed to enhance public awareness through media and social media, ensure the pre-placement of machinery for timely road restoration, and coordinate with rescue services and armed forces for rapid response capabilities. The public is advised to avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms and take precautions to secure their properties against the adverse effects of heavy rains.
