Heavy Monsoon Rains Drench Punjab, Sialkot Records Highest Rainfall

Islamabad: The latest update from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) details significant rainfall across Pakistan over the past 24 hours, with Punjab experiencing the heaviest showers. Sialkot topped the list with a record 114 mm of rain, posing potential challenges for urban and rural areas in managing water accumulation and related disruptions.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, the state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) also reported varied levels of rainfall. In Balochistan, Lasbela received 18 mm, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Balakot saw 17 mm. Notably, other cities in Punjab such as M.B. Din and Gujranwala recorded 98 mm and 82 mm respectively, indicating widespread heavy rainfall across the region.

The NDMA’s Monsoon 2024 update emphasizes the need for readiness and caution in these areas, especially in Punjab where the highest rainfall levels could affect daily activities and pose risks of flooding. Local authorities are advised to monitor water levels and ensure that drainage systems are clear to handle the additional water load.
