Islamabad: Heatwave conditions are sweeping across much of the country, with forecasts indicating a severe intensification in the southern regions. The Pakistan Meteorological Department anticipates that daytime temperatures in the southern areas will rise 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal. Meanwhile, Central and Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to experience temperatures 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above the usual levels until April 18th.

The ongoing heatwave is also likely to result in warmer nights, a factor that could lead to dust or windstorms due to significant heat accumulation. This weather pattern has prompted authorities to issue advisories for public safety, particularly emphasizing the vulnerability of children, women, and senior citizens. The department has urged the population to avoid direct sunlight, stay hydrated, and modify outdoor activities to minimize heat exposure.

The agricultural sector is not exempt from the heatwave’s impact, with farmers being advised to ensure the well-being of their livestock amid rising temperatures. Additionally, in the northern areas, the increased heat may expedite snowmelt, which could have broader environmental implications.

With the potential for wind and dust storms, there is concern over possible damage to unsteady structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels in susceptible areas.
