Gwadar: In an ambitious move under the Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan, the Gwadar Development Authority is dedicating efforts to both modernizing the city’s infrastructure and preserving its rich historical heritage. The initiative includes the restoration of four significant historical sites to ensure the ancient culture and heritage of Gwadar are maintained and celebrated for future generations.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the Old Town Restoration Project in Gwadar will focus on the restoration of Padgu, the Telegraph Office, the Portuguese Watch Tower, and the Omani Fort. Dr. Kaleemullah Lashari, a prominent archaeologist, has been appointed to oversee the restoration work, ensuring that these sites are restored to their original condition. This project aims not only to preserve the city’s ancient culture but also to integrate it with Gwadar’s ongoing development efforts.
The restoration of these historical sites is seen as crucial for boosting local and international tourism and for enhancing the historical narrative of the city. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to balance cultural preservation with economic and infrastructural development, highlighting Gwadar’s potential as a key cultural and economic hub in the region.
