Gwadar Holds Key Meeting to Tighten Regulations on Explosive Materials

Gwadar: In response to security concerns, the District Explosive Material Committee convened a critical meeting to review and tighten the regulations surrounding the issuance and use of explosives licenses in Gwadar. Presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Tabish Ali Baloch, the meeting saw participation from local law enforcement, the Mines and Minerals Department, and representatives from sensitive institutions.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Tabish Ali Baloch highlighted that no new explosives licenses have been issued by the district administration since 2019, citing the security sensitivities of the region. He emphasized the need for rigorous scrutiny in the management of explosives, given Gwadar’s strategic importance and environmental conditions.

During the meeting, members were urged to exchange information regarding any unauthorized use or trade of explosives within the district. The committee acknowledged that while there are no confirmed reports of misuse, explosives are commonly utilized in local construction, mining, and other industrial activities, necessitating strict oversight.

Further discussions focused on the risks associated with storing explosives in Gwadar’s humid climate, which can increase the hazard of such materials. The Additional Deputy Commissioner also raised concerns about the illicit trade of black urea, often used in making explosives, calling for vigilance and reporting of any related activities.

The session underscored the commitment of Gwadar’s administration to maintain stringent controls on explosive materials to ensure the safety and security of the district.
