Jammu, September 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a large number of people from Gujjar Bakkarwala tribe protested in Rajouri district of Jammu region against the inclusion of elite, influential, privileged, socially and economically advanced upper caste Paharis in the list of Scheduled Tribe communities.
Including BDC Chairpersons, Panchs, Sarpanch representatives of Employees Association, retired bureaucrats, Students from different degree colleges and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), youths, activists and joined together at Bela Colony Park.
Call for the protest was given by general public as it was a non-political gathering not lead by any leader and social activist. Protestors came all the way from Thanamandi, Saj, Dodson, Darhal, Peeri Prori, Koternka, Palma, Kamalkote, Lam Darhal, Nowshera, Kallar, Agrathi, Bathuni, Manjakote and different far flung areas of district. They were holding slogan boards, protest banners and raising slogans against the inclusion of Pahari elites in ST.
The protestors marched from Bela Colony Park towards Gujjar Mandi Rajouri via Abdullah bridge and reached DC office Rajouri and submitted a detailed memorandum to the DC and requesting him to forward the copies of memorandum to the Indian President, Prime Minister and Home Minister. They urged the Indian government not to include any undeserving, elite and privileged community in the Scheduled Tribe list.
The demonstrators said any move on the part of the Indian government in IIOJK to grant ST status to the non-existent Paharis, who basically represent feudalism and continue to occupy, vital positions in the government, would create serious problems in the border-belt of Jammu and parts of Kashmir Valley and if it happened, the consequences would be disastrous for the Indian government.
