Govt, WB Vow to Strengthen Pakistan’s Economic Resilience


ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan and the World Bank have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering Pakistan’s economic resilience and promoting inclusive development through strategic partnerships. This was expressed during a meeting between Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and the World Bank Pakistan team in Islamabad.



The World Bank delegation comprised Najy Benhassine, the outgoing Country Director, and Bolormaa Amgaabazar, the incoming Country Director for Pakistan. Finance Minister Aurangzeb extended a warm welcome to Amgaabazar and expressed confidence that the collaboration between Pakistan and the World Bank would continue to thrive under her leadership.



Aurangzeb also commended Benhassine for his contributions and support during his tenure, acknowledging his role in strengthening the development partnership. He wished Benhassine success in his future endeavors.



The Finance Minister expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s financial and technical assistance across key sectors. He emphasized the recently signed 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) as a critical component of Pakistan’s economic strategy, highlighting its potential to transform vital sectors through strategic implementation.



Aurangzeb underscored the importance of executing the CPF’s Country Financing Framework (CFF) to fully realize the benefits of the World Bank’s support. He praised the institutional, technical, and financial backing consistently provided by the Bank.



The Minister also noted the successful completion of the International Monetary Fund review and the subsequent $1 billion disbursement under the Extended Fund Facility. He stressed that development finance should be guided by merit, aiming for sustainable progress beyond political considerations.
