Govt to Setup 10,000 EV Charging Stations by 2030: Rana Tanveer Hussain Unveils Plan to Transform Transportation Landscape.


Islamabad: Different models of electric vehicles were unveiled in an exhibition ceremony held at the Engineering Development Board (EDB) on Wednesday, where Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Industries and Production, announced a significant government initiative aimed at transforming the transportation landscape by setting up 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030.



According to Press Information Department, the minister addressed the “exhibition of electric bike models” organized by the EDB, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reducing fuel dependency, cutting carbon emissions, and promoting cleaner, sustainable transportation. He noted the growing private sector interest and government-backed incentives that are expected to boost electric mobility, benefiting both the economy and the environment.



The minister revealed that around 31 companies have expressed interest in investing in electric vehicles in Pakistan, with two companies already granted permission to manufacture electric vehicles. He also highlighted that Pakistan is now in a position to export three-wheelers. Key initiatives to promote electric vehicles across the country were discussed, with manufacturing activities expected to commence soon by private companies, enhancing the industry.



Additionally, the government plans to launch a second electric vehicle policy by November 30 to further promote eco-friendly transportation. The Punjab government is also working on two and three-wheeler electric vehicles. The minister announced that 100 students will receive electric bikes based on merit through a transparent bidding process. An allocation of Rs 4 billion has been made for electric motorcycles.



The minister emphasized the vital role of the private sector in Pakistan’s economic development, noting that the country’s economy is moving towards improvement. This shift towards eco-friendly transportation is anticipated to positively impact Pakistan’s environment and economy, paving the way for a greener future with government support and private sector investment.
