Govt saved Pakistan from default at cost of its political capital: Finance Minister 

Islamabad, July 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):Finance Minister Miftah Ismail says the incumbent government has saved Pakistan from default at the cost of its political capital. In a series of tweets, he said Pakistan witnessed its highest trade deficit in the last year of PTI government as Pakistan imported goods worth 80 billion US dollars.

Miftah Ismail said in each of Imran Khan’s four years of government country’s budget deficit remained at the highest in the history. The Minister further said when Imran Khan came to power the value of rupee against US dollar was 122 but when he left it was 190.

Moreover, Pakistan owed 25,000 billion rupees when Imran Khan came to power but it soared up to 44,000 billion rupees till the end of his government. Miftah Ismail said Imran Khan left the energy sector in a serious mess. He said no contracts were signed for gas or fuel, and in last year alone addition to power circular debt was 850 billion rupees.
