Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed on Monday that the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony is contemplating a policy shift that would restrict Hajj Muavineen to the exclusive role of serving pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage, rather than participating in the pilgrimage themselves.

During the Question Hour in the National Assembly, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry outlined the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to finalize recommendations that aim to enhance the support provided to pilgrims in Makkah. Chaudhry explained that the proposed policy would prevent Hajj Muavineen from wearing Ahram, the traditional attire of pilgrims, ensuring their undivided attention remains on assisting the Hujjaj.

The Minister elaborated that the Ministerial Staff, referred to as Seasonal Staff, are assigned duties both in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia during the Hajj season. These staff members, who possess relevant experience, are primarily stationed at key locations such as Madinah Munawarrah and Jeddah Airports. Their responsibilities extend to Mission operation Offices, Lost and Found Cell Accommodation, Transportation, Complaint Management, Haram Guide services, and other essential tasks.

Chaudhry emphasized that the staffing process is conducted on a rotational basis, with selections made through a transparent process to ensure the effectiveness of operations.

At the commencement of the assembly session, a solemn prayer, known as fateha, was offered for the souls of eight Pakistanis who were murdered in Iran, as well as for former Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad and others. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar led the prayer session.
