Govt Pledges Investor-Friendly Environment in Energy Sector Talks

ISLAMABAD: A delegation from the International Finance Corporation, led by Linda Rudo Munyengeterwa, met with Pakistan’s Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, in Islamabad on Monday to discuss strategies for enhancing private investment in the energy sector via Public Private Partnership models.

The discussions highlighted the pivotal role of the IFC in introducing modern technology to boost investment within Pakistan’s energy sector. Minister Leghari acknowledged the challenges of demand and pricing as significant obstacles facing the sector. He expressed gratitude for the IFC’s guidance in crafting sustainable solutions to these issues.

Minister Leghari underscored the government’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for investors. He praised the IFC’s technical expertise and global experience, noting that such partnerships are crucial for advancing the nation’s energy strategies.

The IFC delegation conveyed their readiness to back the Power Division’s digital meterization policy and offered assistance in policy formulation and reforms. They cited successful models from Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and India, demonstrating how these strategies have spurred investment and increased the integration of renewable energy sources.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to enhance future cooperation and implement joint efforts in various energy projects, signaling a strengthened partnership aimed at leveraging international experiences to benefit Pakistan’s energy landscape.
