Karachi: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced a plan to allocate five marla plots of land to 17,000 individuals in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). This move is part of an ongoing initiative by the Indian government, which has been seen as an attempt to change the demographic composition of the region.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, this development comes amid heightened actions by the Indian government following the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019. The report suggests that these actions, including the land allocation, aim to alter the Muslim majority in IIOJK.
The Lieutenant Governor, in his address at a function in Jammu, stated that his administration has already allotted land to 9,000 people and plans to extend this to an additional 17,000 individuals. It is noted that the recipients of this land are predominantly non-Pashtun and not original residents of the state, a factor that is expected to impact the area’s population dynamics.
