Islamabad, February 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri has expressed government’s determination to pull the underprivileged communities out of poverty. She was speaking at a ceremony in Karachi that was held to distribute matching grants under Growth for Rural Advancement and Sustainable Progress (GRASP) project.
The Minister termed GRASP as a critical intervention for the economic uplift of the rural areas of Sindh and hoped that it will also create job opportunities in targeted areas. On the occasion, matching grants worth 269 million rupees were distributed amongst 128 beneficiaries to promote agri-business in Sindh.
Representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan Daniel Clauss termed GRASP as a significant investment to boost agriculture in Pakistan and expressed pleasure that 47 out of the 128 SMEs owners receiving their awards were women. He informed that the project is designed to promote climate adaptive and resilient production to also tackle the issue of climate change in Pakistan.
