Government to introduce growth-oriented measures: Tarin 

Islamabad, December 09, 2021 (PPI-OT):Adviser on Finance Shaukat Tarin has expressed the government’s determination to introduce growth-oriented measures to stimulate economic growth. Delivering a key note address at event- ‘Dialogue on the Economy 2021’, in Islamabad today [Thursday], he said the prudent fiscal reforms have helped in improving the tax to GDP ratio.

He said increasing tax collection and expanding the tax base are key objectives of the government’s financial agenda. He said the government is vigorously pursuing Make in Pakistan policy to promote export-oriented industrialization in the country. Shaukat Tarin said the current trends in key economic indicators as well as recent high frequency indicators are giving encouraging signals for growth.

Addressing a conference on sustainable development in Islamabad today, Adviser on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin has said that tax to GDP ratio will be enhanced to twenty percent in next four years to achieve economic growth of six to eight percent.

He expressed satisfaction over the increase in revenue collection. He said the tax to GDP ratio remained nine percent in the previous year and it is expected to be 11.50 percent during the current fiscal year. He said the FBR is being revamped with use of technology to enhance tax collection. He said enhanced revenue collection and usage of electricity indicate that the economy is growing.

The Adviser emphasized the need for enhancing the productivity of different sectors including agriculture and the industries. He said the housing sector has started to perform due to the prudent policies of the present government. Shaukat Tarin was confident that the prices of essential commodities will come down in the country as a declining trend is being witnessed in the prices of petroleum products in the international market.

He said the government has also launched Kamyab Pakistan program to uplift the poor segments of the society. He said under this program interest free loans will be given for businesses, the agriculture sector and construction of houses to the under privileged lot who will also be given Health Cards.

Meanwhile, Talking to Pakistan’s Ambassador designate to the US Masood Khan, Adviser on Finance has stressed on further enhancing business collaborations between Pakistan and the United States. He hoped the bilateral collaborations between the two countries will further grow.
