Islamabad: The federal government is set to finance the construction of thirty-two dams throughout the current fiscal year, aimed at significantly enhancing the country’s water storage and irrigation capacity.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during today’s Question Hour in the National Assembly, Minister for Water Resources Musadik Malik detailed that these dams would collectively store approximately 8,429,288 acre-feet of water and bring an additional 436,934 acres under irrigation. Malik also noted the introduction of an automatic telemetry system to resolve inter-provincial water disputes.
In another development, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar conveyed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission to enhance the training of nurses to international standards, boosting their employment prospects both domestically and internationally.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also took the floor to discuss ongoing political grievances aired in a special committee meeting, emphasizing the need for reflection and reconciliation among political parties.
Additionally, the assembly passed the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority Bill, 2024, introduced by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, marking a significant legislative development. The session was adjourned and will resume tomorrow at three PM.
