Government taking steps to revive game of hockey: NA told

Islamabad, April 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): The National Assembly was informed today the government is taking steps to revive the game of hockey. Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari told the House during Question Hour that these efforts include facilitating the players and providing them with better environment. He said our policy also involves giving special grants to the sports federation performing better.

The Minister said hockey is our national game and recalled that our hockey team also won several international tournaments in the past. He said attention is also being paid to uplift other sports as well. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that a special committee is investigating into the martyrdom of former Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor in a road accident in Islamabad.

Responding to the points raised by Parliamentary Secretary Agha Rafiullah in the National Assembly, she said the report of the committee will be presented in the lower house tomorrow and the Interior Minister will also apprise the nation of the facts.

The information minister said according to the statement made by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in the house, there is so far no evidence that links this accident with a conspiracy. She regretted politics on this tragedy on social media. She said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is running a dirty campaign on social media regarding this tragedy which is condemnable. She said these are the same people who had run an organized campaign on the Lasbela incident.
