Government taking concrete measures to overcome energy crisis: Dastgir

Islamabad, June 08, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan says government is taking practical steps to end the energy crisis in the country and the nation will see a significant decrease in the load shedding from next month. Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said the country is facing a shortfall of approximately 4000 MW as the generation of electricity is about 22000MW but the demand is about 26000MW.

The Federal Minister said that 600 MW coal based electricity will be included in the system till the 15th of this month and Karachi’s K2 Nuclear Power Plant will also start adding 1100 MW electricity to the system at the end of this month.

He said the demand in electricity has also increased due to increase in the temperature as the country has witnessed an increase of 25% in temperature from April as compared to last year. Khurram Dastgir said government has implemented a policy of zero load-shedding in industrial sector to save the daily wagers from the impact of load shedding. He said PTI government did not initiate a single power project in its tenure to address the energy crisis.
