Government takes steps to avoid Pakistan from facing bankruptcy: Prime Minister

Islamabad, June 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the coalition government has steered the country away from the verge of bankruptcy, and is now striving to bring prosperity through dedicated efforts. Addressing a reception hosted by him for the parliamentarians of the ruling coalition in Islamabad, he said the coalition government will change fate of the country in its fourteen months term.

The Prime Minister said the previous government had pushed Pakistan to the verge of bankruptcy. He said the agreement with International Monetary Fund is about to be finalised, but it contains very tough conditions.

The Prime Minister said the incumbent government has put the affluent class under direct tax and the step would bring in 200 billion rupees to the national kitty. He said considering the inflation, the government provided relief to the poor people through Benazir Income Support Program.

He said the government also averted the crisis of edible oil by timely importing the commodity from Indonesia. He said the government is also strategizing to enhance indigenous production of edible oil. The Prime Minister said despite a price hike in oil and gas, the government is striving to tackle the situation to meet the country’s energy needs.
