Government reforming power sector to reduce circular debt: Asad 

Islamabad, November 09, 2021 (PPI-OT):Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has said the government is keen to reform power sector in the country with focus on reducing circular debt. He was talking to World Bank delegation led by South Asia Regional Director for Infrastructure Guangzhe Chen in Islamabad on Tuesday. The Minister underscored the importance of World Bank Assistance for the expansion and modernization of the country’s electricity transmission system.

Referring to K4 project, Asad Umar said the provision of clean drinking water and upgrading drainage system of Karachi was amongst the top priorities of the government. He said the government is committed to implementing structural reforms, protecting social spending and boosting social safety nets in order to protect the vulnerable segments of the society.

The Minister for Planning said the government is working to revamp Pakistan Bureau of Statistics with the aim of modernization of statistical system and to enable it for high frequency data generation. Guangzhe Chen supported the energy reform agenda of the present government including circular debt management.
