ISLAMABAD: The government is prioritizing the elimination of tuberculosis as part of its public health strategy, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced, coinciding with the observance of World Tuberculosis Day on Tuesday. The day seeks to elevate public awareness regarding the health, social, and economic impacts of tuberculosis and to enhance efforts to eradicate the global epidemic.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the integration of tuberculosis services into primary health centers across the country to ensure continuous treatment. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment, alongside the international community, to completely eliminate tuberculosis, a disease that is both treatable and preventable. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of public participation in the complete elimination of tuberculosis and called on federal and provincial governments, development partners, universities, the private sector, media, and social leaders to intensify their collective efforts to ensure that no person with tuberculosis is left untreated.
