Government Pledges Support for Journalists and Media Houses in Pakistan


Islamabad, In a series of meetings held in Karachi, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has assured journalists, media workers, and media houses of the government’s commitment to addressing their challenges. This pledge was made during discussions with representatives from the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors, and the Pakistan Broadcasters Association.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar expressed the government’s determination to take actionable steps towards ensuring the welfare of media personnel and organizations. Acknowledging the difficulties faced by the media sector, he outlined plans to protect the rights of media workers and journalists, alongside efforts to expedite the clearance of pending dues to media houses as part of the initiatives directed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.



The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has already approved a supplementary grant aimed at settling arrears and dues owed to media establishments. Additionally, Tarar announced that health cards for journalists, facilitating access to medical treatment, would be issued imminently, reflecting a broader push towards improving support structures for media professionals.



Highlighting the broader economic context, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to tackle economic challenges, aligning with Prime Minister Sharif’s vision. This includes the digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue to foster a documented economy, an initiative likely to have positive implications for the media sector and beyond.



The dialogue with media representatives resulted in expressions of support for the government’s endeavors to achieve economic stability and growth, underscoring a collaborative approach to addressing the concerns of the media industry in Pakistan.
