Government Launches Fruit Tree Plantation Initiative Along National Highways

Islamabad: The federal government has unveiled a new initiative to plant fruit trees along the nation’s motorways and highways, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability and economic development. The plan was formalized in a meeting between the Minister for Climate Change, Dr. Musadik Malik, and the Minister for Communications, Aleem Khan.

The program outlines a model where private investors will lease land for the establishment of climate-appropriate fruit plantations on a three-year basis. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between the government and the private sector to increase the country’s green cover while simultaneously creating economic opportunities.

Dr. Musadik Malik emphasized the dual benefits of the initiative, noting its potential to support Pakistan’s climate goals and stimulate economic growth. He assured that the Ministry of Climate Change will provide necessary technical support, which includes assistance in obtaining carbon credits, to facilitate the execution of the program.

The announcement is part of a broader governmental effort to address climate change impacts and promote sustainable practices across the country.
