Islamabad: During a session of the National Assembly today, various government officials presented updates on efforts to enhance business competitiveness, manage inflation, and progress on significant privatization and infrastructure projects. Minister of State for Finance Ali Pervaiz emphasized the government’s commitment to improving businesses’ access to finance and reducing restrictions on the import of raw materials to support export growth. Additionally, inflation was reported to have decreased to 6.9 percent, reflecting effective government measures.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Parliamentary Secretary Gul Asghar Khan announced the upcoming final bidding for the privatization of PIA Corporation Limited set for October 30, part of a broader five-year plan to privatize twenty-four state entities, with ten in the initial phase. In a further development, Parliamentary Secretary for Planning Wajiha Qamar updated that the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme K-4 is on track for completion next year, with sufficient funding secured.
The session also addressed legislative efforts against tax fraud, with Ali Pervaiz detailing enhancements in the Federal Board of Revenue’s capacity through technology and training. Furthermore, the assembly passed the Legal Aid and Justice Authority Amendment Bill 2024, moved by Ali Pervaiz, marking a significant legislative development.
