Islamabad, July 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Imran Khan says government is focusing on road infrastructure, development of industrial and agriculture sector, provision of employment, and availability of basic facilities in Baluchistan. He was chairing a review meeting in Gwadar today regarding progress on the Development Package for South Baluchistan. The meeting was informed that provincial and federal institutions are monitoring the work continuing on this historic package for Baluchistan. It was told that 99.38 billion rupees out of the total amount of this package worth 654 billion rupees would be spent on various projects during the current fiscal year.
These projects include transport, construction of basic infrastructure, provision of clean drinking water and its better utilization, agriculture and livestock, information technology, energy, industry and commerce, manpower and education and other development schemes. Under the package, a road-infrastructure of 1,100 kilometres is being constructed to facilitate easy movement of the people of Baluchistan and enabling them to carry their agri products to markets. The package also includes construction of seven big and 100 small dams for water storage. Besides, the meeting was informed that provision of electricity would be enhanced from 12 to 57 percent as well as availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas would be ensured.
It was also apprised that a comprehensive project has been initiated in the name of Aspire to promote education in the province. Under this initiative, distance education is being imparted to the students of far flung areas through telescoping. Additionally, 25,000 students are being educated under Waseela-e-Taleem; besides, establishing cadet colleges at Gwadar, Kharan, and women universities at Turbat, Pishin, and Khuzdar. The meeting was also informed that 640,000 students will be benefited through distance learning. Furthermore, financial assistance was given to 5,000 families under Ehsaas Program, while a survey is underway to facilitate 20,000 additional families.
Digital connectivity would be improved in Ketch, Gwadar, Chaghi, and Noshki districts under Digital Baluchistan initiative, while high-speed internet would be provided along highways and digital skills be imparted to 35,000 youth under Ignite Programme. Regarding industry and commerce, it was said that joint border markets would be established at Gibd, Mand, and Chidgi, while dates processing plants and marble related industries of international standard would be set up at Washuk, Mashkil, and Turbat. Similarly, an olive oil plant would be established at Khuzdar and provision of modern machinery for mining and to bring innovation and stability to the boat making industry would be ensured.
