Government Focuses on Enhancing Karakoram Highway to Boost Tourism and Economy

Gilgit, The Pakistani government is intensifying efforts to upgrade the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and associated roads and motorways to enhance tourism in the country’s northern regions. This initiative, highlighted by Minister for Communications, Privatization and Investment Board Abdul Aleem Khan during his visit to Gilgit, aims to bolster the local economy and improve the socio-economic conditions of residents.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Khan emphasized the strategic importance of improving transportation infrastructure as a means to promote tourism in the area. His discussions in Gilgit included a meeting with Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and other cabinet members. They deliberated on several key projects, focusing particularly on the worn state of the Karakoram Highway, Jaglot-Skardu Road, and various tunnels.

These enhancements are expected to facilitate easier access to the scenic northern areas, thus attracting more tourists and fostering economic growth through increased travel and local investments.
