Government Cracks Down on Electricity Theft, Recovers Billions

Islamabad: In a concerted effort to address the nation’s power crisis and bolster the economy, the government’s anti-electricity theft campaign has reported significant progress. Over the past week alone, authorities have reclaimed more than Rs 28 million from individuals involved in electricity theft.

In this period, 1,507 cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 97 individuals. This development is part of a broader initiative that began on September 1, 2023, which has so far resulted in the recovery of over Rs 152.54 billion. Nationwide, a total of 314,814 cases have been filed, and 116,585 suspects have been apprehended.

Government officials have reiterated their commitment to persist with the campaign until electricity theft is completely eradicated. They stress that stringent actions will continue to protect national resources and enhance the stability of both the economy and the power sector.
