DOHA: Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has reiterated the government’s commitment to closing the digital gender divide. Speaking virtually at a conference titled ‘Digitalization and Women in Politics’ in Doha, Qatar, Khawaja emphasized the importance of women’s access to technology and the Internet for empowerment.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Khawaja highlighted ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers that women face in using mobile phones and Information and Communications Technology. She noted that socio-economic challenges hinder women’s participation in politics and underscored the government’s resolve to address these issues.
The Prime Minister’s Free Laptop Scheme is cited as a significant initiative aimed at improving access to digital tools for women. Additionally, work is progressing on the Smartphones for All Policy, designed to further enhance women’s access to technology.
