Government Announces Comprehensive Measures to Reduce Electricity Prices

Islamabad: In a significant move to address the economic pressures faced by Pakistani consumers, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced a series of government initiatives aimed at reducing electricity prices and providing broader economic relief.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a news conference held today, Minister Tarar highlighted the Punjab government’s recent decision to cut electricity prices by fourteen rupees per unit for consumers using up to five hundred units—a measure that represents an unprecedented effort to alleviate the financial burden on the populace. This adjustment is part of a larger relief package totaling forty-five billion rupees intended to ease consumer costs during the summer months.

The Minister also referenced previous government actions, including a subsidy of fifty billion rupees for users consuming up to two hundred units over a three-month period and recent reductions in petrol prices. These initiatives underscore the commitment of the PML-N leadership to address the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens.

Additionally, Tarar noted the ongoing solarization of twenty-eight thousand tubewells in Balochistan, which aims to decrease operating costs for local farmers and support agricultural productivity in the region.

Highlighting the broader economic context, Tarar mentioned that inflation has decreased to eleven percent, with further declines anticipated by international financial institutions. He reiterated the government’s ongoing efforts to find durable solutions to high electricity costs, including measures to reduce line losses and combat power pilferage.

In closing, the Minister commended the Pakistan Army’s internal accountability mechanisms, reflecting on the recent arrest of retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed as a positive example of institutional integrity.
