Government Allocates Rs. 100 Billion to Boost Electric Vehicle Adoption


Islamabad: A high-level meeting chaired by the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, focused on advancing the National Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy. The meeting, held in Islamabad, included representatives from the Pakistan Banking Association and leading insurance companies.



The primary agenda was the proposed Rs. 100 billion subsidy, aimed at promoting electric vehicles in Pakistan. Haroon Akhtar Khan noted that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of enhancing public welfare and environmental protection.



The SAPM highlighted the potential impact of the NEV Policy on reducing smog and air pollution. He emphasized that improved air quality could significantly cut down Pakistan’s dependency on imported oil, leading to a reduced oil import bill.



Haroon Akhtar Khan reiterated the government’s dedication to a cleaner Pakistan, stating the mission is to achieve a smog-free and prosperous nation. He announced plans to establish electric vehicle charging stations nationwide to facilitate the public’s transition to sustainable transportation.
