Government Aims to Provide Affordable Electricity and Tackle Encroachments: Law Minister


Islamabad, The National Assembly resumed its session at the Parliament House with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair. During the session, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized the government’s commitment to providing affordable electricity to consumers and taking measures to address illegal encroachments on Evacuee Trust Property in the district of Nankana Sahib.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, while responding to a calling attention notice, Law Minister Tarar highlighted the need for a comprehensive policy to vacate Evacuee Trust Property that has been illegally occupied. He noted that a massive anti-encroachment operation is required to remove illegal occupants. The Law Minister explained that Nankana Sahib Gurdawara has a total of 16,931 acres of agricultural land, with around 14,000 illegal constructions and 1,447 acres encroached by illegal settlements. He assured the House that the government is committed to retrieving the encroached land from unauthorized occupants.



Regarding energy, the Law Minister stated that the government is taking steps to enhance the energy mix to provide affordable electricity to consumers. He announced plans to establish a plant in collaboration with China to manufacture solar panels in Pakistan, which would help reduce electricity costs.



During the session, Law Minister Tarar also laid in the House an authenticated copy of President Asif Ali Zardari’s address to the joint session of the parliament. The joint session of both houses was convened on the 18th of this month.



The government’s efforts to address illegal encroachments and focus on providing affordable electricity reflect its broader commitment to socio-economic stability and the well-being of Pakistani citizens. The session also highlighted the government’s plans to boost local solar panel manufacturing to lower electricity costs and support energy independence.
