Government Advances Privatization of Power Distribution Companies

Islamabad: The government is intensifying its efforts to reform the energy sector, with a focus on privatizing leading power distribution companies. Supported by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), the initiative aims to address longstanding challenges in the sector. A steering committee has been established to oversee the privatization process, which initially targets the power distribution companies in Islamabad, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, significant progress has been made in the privatization efforts, with the SIFC playing a central role in expediting the process. The move to privatize these top-performing companies is seen as a critical step in revitalizing the energy sector and ensuring efficient service delivery.

The government’s decision to prioritize these three distribution companies underscores its commitment to involving the private sector in enhancing operational efficiency and addressing energy distribution issues. The establishment of a steering committee is a strategic measure to facilitate the smooth execution of the privatization strategy.
