Srinagar, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have paid glowing tributes to popular youth leader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, and his associates on their 5th martyrdom anniversary, being observed today.
Burhan Wani along with two associates was martyred by Indian troops in a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on July 8, 2016. Burhan Wani’s extrajudicial killing triggered a mass uprising in the occupied territory and during the anti-India demonstrations in the following several months, Indian troops and police killed over 120 innocent protesters.
Senior Hurriyat leader, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the 2016 uprising had strengthened the Kashmiris’ resolve for freedom and they had further accelerated their struggle to achieve their goal. He said the people of Kashmir have rendered unprecedented sacrifices since 1931, adding that their sacrifices would not go waste and would definitely bring positive results. Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori along with a delegation also visited Sopore and expressed solidarity with the aggrieved family of renowned freedom fighter Merajuddin Halwai who was martyred by Indian troops in Handwara, yesterday.
The Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement Chairman, Molvi Bashir Ahmed Irfani, in a statement issued in Srinagar said, the martyrdom of Burhan Wani has proved that every child of Kashmir is devoted to the freedom struggle and is not ready to accept India’s brutal illegal occupation. He said, the spirit of freedom of nations cannot be crushed through military might. He said the day of martyrdom of Burhan Wani is sending a message to the whole world that if the oppression in IIOJK continues, then peace in the world cannot be guaranteed.
The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement, Khawaja Firdous, in a statement in Srinagar reiterated the Kashmiris’ pledge to take the martyrs’ mission to its logical conclusion. He said that it was the misperception of India that it would succeed in suppressing the ongoing liberation movement. He added that India must read writing on the wall that it martyred one Burhan but thousands of more Burhans emerged.
Hurriyat leader, Javaid Ahmad Mir, in his statement in Srinagar said that the Burhan Wani and other martyrs had rendered their lives for the Kashmir cause and their sacrifices would definitely bring fruit. He said that without the settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute according to the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, permanent peace in the region was impossible.
A spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Front (JKFF) in a statement issued in Srinagar, paying tributes to Burhan Wani, said that Indian troops were continuously killing the people of Kashmir, especially the youth, to suppress the ongoing freedom movement. He also demanded of the United Nations and other international human rights organizations to take notice of the Indian brutalities in IIOJK.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League (JKPFL), Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, in a statement in Islamabad, paying tributes to Burhan Wani and other martyrs, said that the people of Kashmir are quite alive to the situation and will foil India’s all nefarious designs to crush the freedom struggle. He rejected all those illegal steps that India took on and after 5th August 2019 in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the United Nations to take cognizance of grave human rights violations in IIOJK and prevent the Modi regime from destroying the demographic composition of IIOJK.
Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement, Abdul Majeed Malik, Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Pir Panjal Freedom Movement and representative of AJK chapter of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Association, Khalid Shabbir in their joint statement issued in Islamabad said that the contribution of Burhan Wani in the ongoing Kashmir freedom movement would always be remembered. They appealed to the United Nations to fulfill its responsibilities regarding settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
