Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operation Center of the National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert for potential glacial lake outburst floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. The warning highlights an increased risk from July 17 to 23, 2024, amid rising temperatures and expected heavy rainfall.
According to Press Information Department, NEOC has directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority to collaborate with relevant departments. They are tasked with ensuring necessary preparations and response measures are in place. Local communities, tourists, and travelers in affected areas have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to participate in mock drills. These drills are aimed at ensuring timely evacuation and enhancing safety protocols.
The NDMA has also launched the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, now available on Google Play Store and iOS App Store, to provide the public with timely alerts, advisories, and guidelines. This initiative is part of an effort to enhance community resilience and readiness in face of potential natural disasters.
