Islamabad, February 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):The global petroleum products’ prices are tracking the Ukraine- Russia war and resultantly surged to $100/bbl. The unprecedented increase is very risky for the domestic fuel prices and inflation. The situation leaves very few options for the Government.
Prior to today’s review, the Government has left more than Rupees 70 billion per month to keep the prices lower and providing relief to the masses. In the fortnightly review, due on 28th February, OGRA has recommended Rs10/litre increase in the petroleum products’ prices.
The Prime Minister has not only rejected the increase but also announced to decrease the prices of petroleum products by Rupees 10/litre in his address to the nation in order to provide maximum relief to the consumers, despite the limited fiscal space. The new prices of petroleum products with effect from 1st March, 2022 will be as follows:
(Rs./Litre) Product Existing Prices w.e.f 16-02-2022 New Prices w.e.f. 01-03-2022 Increase / (-) Decrease MS (Petrol) 159.86 149.86 -10.00 High Speed Diesel (HSD) 154.15 144.15 -10.00 Kerosene (SKO) 126.56 125.56 -1.00 Light Diesel Oil 123.97 118.31 -5.66
