Patna, Giriraj Singh, a minister in the Indian government, has urged the Nitish Kumar administration in Bihar to shut down all madrasas in the state, labeling them a threat to internal security.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Singh, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has targeted over 3,000 madrasas in Bihar, alleging that they pose a security risk to both the state and the country. He has called for surveys of madrasas in Bihar, similar to those conducted in Uttar Pradesh, suggesting that these religious educational institutions are involved in brainwashing the Muslim community and are hubs for organizations like the Popular Front of India (PFI).
Singh has accused Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad of contributing to the rise in what he terms as illegal madrasas, citing their policies of appeasement politics. This statement from a central minister has sparked controversy and is likely to intensify the ongoing debate over religious education and its role in Indian society.
